New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, paraphrasing M. Voltaire,
2-6-05, Seattle Times:

"And it's true that you can improve Social Security's finances with
privatization, as long as you also slash benefits -- just as you can
kill a flock of sheep with witchcraft, provided you also feed them aresinic."

"Bush's privatization plan is, in effect, as if your financial adviser told you that you wouldn't have enough money when you retire - but you shouldn't save more. Instead, you should borrow a lot of money, buy stocks and hope for capital gains."

Also a good idea is to invest in a large and sturdy shoe box, and try secure a good warm spot in the subway's corridors.

Yes. Voltaire is probably the single most important reason why democracies exist today. JJ Rousseau was equally instrumental, even if he helped shaking the Monarch/Clergy edifice of tyranny in a different way.
