Abused prisoners not abused enough?

You'll have to follow the links to get the full story. This piece is just to point out a couple of paragraphs that raised my cynicism level, caused me to shake my head and wonder why in the hell do we bother. I don't really mean this. I do know why we bother but my frustration and anger grows daily. You ask, "Why do they hate us?" You must be kidding!

Documents released Friday disclosed previously unpublicized allegations of prisoner abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan, including mock executions and beatings, that were investigated by the US Army but in some cases dismissed for lack of evidence.
The documents from the army's Criminal Investigation Division were the latest in a series of such documents obtained through a court order by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

One probe was triggered by the discovery of a compact disk in Afghanistan in July 2004 that contained digital images of soldiers pointing pistols and M-4 rifles at the heads and backs of bound and hooded detainees at Fire Base Tyscze in Dae Rahwood.

Probable cause, in the case, was found to charge one soldier with assault for hitting a prisoner in the back of the head, and dereliction of duty on the part of eight soldiers. But more serious charges of aggravated assault were not substantiated.

"Investigation did not establish credible information to indicate an intent on behalf of these individuals to harm the PUC's (prisoners under control), and no evidence (was) identified to indicate the bound detainees were in fear of their lives, or of grievous bodily harm, or even aware weapons were being pointed at them as depicted in the images," the investigation found.

What! I have read this paragraph several times and do not believe what I'm reading. So, you have soldiers pointing weapons at the heads of bound and hooded prisoners but there was no threat? The prisoners weren't in fear of their lives?

Yea right, we're the good guys and they hate us because of it. I understand...

that's not all. you wouldn't believe the medical treatment that was done on these prisoners. and most of it wasn't done by a doctor. i'll see if i can find the article and post it. it will make you sick.

In response to comments left at NIF  (my site) ...
Wow, I haven't been called a fascist in YEARS! Thank you for your meaningful, relevant and insightful comments!

Come back often!
PS - your motto "A group of people striving for justice & peace for humankind, and respect for this planet & all its species" apparently doesn't apply to the comments you leave. Out of curiosity - any chance you were one of the GreenPeace folks who recently got beat down I hope those bruises heal, slowly ... and the least you could do is to include me on your list of NeoCons

"Wow, I haven't been called a fascist in YEARS "...

Really? How weird. No worries though, I promise we're working on this shortcoming.

"and the least you could do is to include me on your list of NeoCons"...

I'll submit your request to the team members. If they rate your blog fascist enough, you may earn the title :-)

I had a look at your blog and although you link to the neo-cons I'm not sure you're far-right (fascist) enough to make our list.
It's pretty hard to tell since you don't share a lot of indepth personal viewpoint.

Our neo-con links are for those that preach hate, bigotry and war.
These people are the enemy and get back what they give. Peace and justice is not what they are looking for.
There are a lot of Conservatives who carry these folks links and banners without realizing what they're all about. I attribute this to ignorance or apathy.

As I blog surf I will no doubt run across your blog and if you improve in the fascist area we will include you.

WhyNot, I'm thinking we should change Neo-Con to Neo-American..hmm.

The neo-con links in the left column are there because we want people to check these folks out. Read what's being written and do look at the comments. Some may find themselves a home. Others will be appalled. It's necessary that people realize the danger because it's quickly getting out of hand and needs to be stopped.

...or even aware weapons were being pointed at them as depicted in the images...Yes, well, when you have a hood over someone's head, that makes it hard for them to be fully aware of what is going on around them. Funny how that part of the equation apparently actually helped to get them off.

"Oh, you made sure the prisoners couldn't completely know what you were doing? Well, then they must not have been fearful at all. I'm sure they fully trusted the guards to treat them with nothing but the utmost respect while they were bound and hooded." Wonder what kind of idiot came up with that logic...

Gosh, I'm glad someone else sees the 'logic'. Some people don't seem to have the foggiest idea of how to put themselves in the place of others. After all the abuses reported in Iraq I'm quite sure these prisoners were more than a bit threatened and in fear of their lives.

Holy christ on a cracker!
You know, at first I was kind of angry that a link from your beautiful site sent my browser to those sewers of bigotry and godless hatred.

It is uncanny how well those websites parallel the websites of their Islamist contemporaries. Same shit different pile.
They contain all of the hatred and mass murder cheerleading of Islamist websites jammed with the same brand of pious religious certainty.
(and why do this hideous hags always have images of sexy chicks on their blogs?)

Those websites endorse the well branded state terrorism of America as they advocate mass murder and the dehumanization of non-white, non-christians.
I didn’t know that “pro-life” meant only nice white christian life.
What a bunch of seedy hypocrites.
I suppose I understand why you would want people to look at the human waste floating in those intellectual toilets but it still makes me shake with anger.

Now that I am up and running again, (Bill Gates must die!) thank you for giving me yet another topic to talk about in my forthcoming weekend update.

Keep on Truckin’ beautiful people of P.P.

What a sight for sore eyes you are, Youngfox. I will be checking you out very soon. Sorry to direct you to such garbage. I know you don't need this education. So many misunderstand and think we're just fighting Republicans. No, these folks are not ordinary Republicans. They are a whole new breed at least for the states. Europe of course and especially Germany is quite familiar with them. It may one day become hard for people stateside to fight them but thankfully we aren't there. ;)

Continue saying it as only you can..love.

FWIW - I link mostly to those sites I agree with, and these are not whimsical or without thought. They are sites, or specific pages on those sites, I very much agree with. In fact, I am a member of The Wide Awakes ... I just am less active in my posting schedule. Anyway, I was mostly asking in jest ...

I encourage all of your readers to check out several of those sites, and many others (I can provide links :) ) to see a different (read : the right) side of the world.
(TWA, CAO, MadTech, UR, IIWII, and RP are all excellent starts!)

Have a good weekend!

Oh, I recommend Cao's first. In fact just to whet the appetite I went and collected just a bit of her latest support for freedom of expression.

If you do not love your country then get the hell out. This country is the greatest in the world and many people die trying to get here for the freedoms we enjoy. The idea of not loving your country, despite any failings it might have, is absolute hypocracy. If you love the freedoms and the opportunities then you should love the country. If you do not love this country then stop sponging off it, get off the teet, and move to another country where you can enjoy the love of humans seen in these wonderful places. Perhaps North Korea, North Vietnam, or Siberia Russia would be more to your liking. You could go to One of the Arab worlds where they love humans so much they treat women like property, something less than human. Maybe you could tell them how much you dislike their behavior and then have your head lopped off. .

Everyone do go and visit and leave her a comment if you dare. ;)

Hey - I agree, Cao is great! She is on my check-every-day list, along with the other I mentioned (and many, many more).
(She is also a founding member of TWA :) )
